Miss Georgia Forestry talks to legislature

The Miss Georgia Forestry Queens traveled to Atlanta on January 31st and February 1st to be special guests at the Legislative reception and Legislative Breakfast. The Reception was held on January 31st at the Rennaisance Downtown Atlanta Hotel and the Legislative Breakfast was held at the Capitol Depot.

The Miss Georgia Forestry Queens had the opportunity to speak with Georgia's Legislator's on important issues facing the Georgia Forestry Industry and the Importance of the Forestry Industry to Georgia. Jonna Wilson Miss Georgia Forestry was one of the guest speakers at the Legislative Breakfast. Jonna's three minute presentation was on the History of the Georgia Forestry Pageant and her duties as Miss Georgia Forestry.

Miss Wilson also spoke on the Stewardship Program, the importance of Fire Prevention, the importance of Forestry, and the products obtained from Forestry. Miss Wilson explained to the Legislators what the Miss Georgia Forestry Queens are doing to educate Georgia on these important issues. Miss Wilson says she speaks with the state on any Forestry issue that they wish to talk with her about, but her main two interests are the Stewardship Program and Forestry Prevention.

"I encourage private landowners to protect, improve, restore, and sustain private forests. Georgia’s private ownership contributes significantly to America 's clean water and air, wildlife habitat, recreational resources and timber supplies. Georgia’s Stewardship program provides landowners with the information they need to manage their forests for a variety of products and services. To maintain Georgia’s Forest for our future generations, we must educate and promote the importance of Fire Prevention. I speak and educate on human caused fires and what kind of devastation these fires can affect our forests. Most of these being caused be careless debris burning…everyone should know their area and always obtain a permit prior to burning. I also educate on the importance of Forestry and the products obtained from Forests…we all use products daily that comes from our forests, products that we could not live without. Thank you for allowing me to represent such a fine and wonderful industry…together, we can continue to educate Georgia on the importance of our Number One Industry."
