The Miss National Sweetheart pageant was held September 5, 2009 in Hoopeston, IL. The reigning Miss Hoopeston was on hand to crown the new Miss National Sweetheart.

The new Miss National Sweetheart 2009 is Shannon Beam, who competed as Miss Virginia. She is a student at Shenandoah University. She is a vocalist and her platform is Elimination of Drunk Driving. She was 4th ru at National Sweetheart in 2008. Shannon was 1st RU '09, 2nd RU '08, (MD-MAO 4th RU '07, T 10 '06).

The first runner up was Miss Nebraska Devin Howell. She was 3rd ru at National Sweetheart in 2008. The second runner up was Miss California Jenna Harvey. THe third runner up was Miss Maryland Mary King. And the fourth runner up was Miss Arkansas Allison Waldrip.

The remaining semifinalists were: Miss Alabama Susannah Higgins, Miss Iowa Jennifer Neal, Miss New York Inga Schlingmann, Miss Ohio Becky Minger, Miss Oregon Cassandra Toleman, and Miss Pennsylvania Courtney Thomas.

Winning the interview award was Miss Arkansas Allison Waldrip and Miss New York Inga Schlingmann

Winning the evening gown award was Miss Virginia Shannon Beam and Miss Alabama Sssannah Higgins.

Eight contestants from National Sweetheart Pageant have gone on to become Miss America with five actually winning the Sweetheart title: 1970 Pam Eldred (Michigan); 1974 Rebecca King (Colorado); 1982 Grace Elizabeth Ward (Arkansas, Natl Sweetheart 1980); 1989 Debbye L.
